Most Safe & Rated Golf Club In Kenya.

Kericho Club was established by a few European settlers after they met at Kericho Sports Arm Hotel in the mid-1920s to discuss ways of setting up a golf course in the then Kericho District (now Kericho County). It was a sweet decision by those individuals who eventually identified a steep and hilly area where they built a small golf course at the present location of Kericho Police Station.

After the actualization of the plan, a number of European golfers enrolled into the club and the number increased rapidly. The growth came with a demand to move to a more spacious location, forcing them to relocate to a horse racing course that at the time hosted large tracts of land several kilometers away from the original venue.

They settled at the present 9-Hole Course Kericho Club as the new venue. The first chairman of the club was A.C. Aswan who was a District Commissioner in the then Nyanza Province, which also covered the then Kericho District.Between 1927-1963, all golfers at the club were Europeans as it was an exclusive sport for the whites in the town and Kenya in general.

Africans were only allowed to play golf after Kenya attained independence in 1963.Elijah Chebelyon was the first chairman in 1974 and 1975 who was later succeeded by Peter Mwangi. In the subsequent years, African administration at the club kept on working on several structural developments that were earlier introduced by the whites although most African chairmen have equally made major strides in terms of developing the club that has been blessed with favorable climatic conditions that have ensured the course remains evergreen all the year-round.
